Message from Manji Inoue sensei This piece is shaped on the potter’s wheel with absolute precision, without the slightest deviation. Afterward, a spiral is carefully carved into its surface. It is a work that demands both significant time and advanced skill.

Message from Manji Inoue sensei

Traditionally, Arita porcelain has been decorated with underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze red (akae), and this decoration has remained a hallmark of industrial art up to the present day. However, I intentionally limit decoration, creating works that focus on the pure form, technique, sensitivity, and spirit of white porcelain.

Japan has a long history of diverse crafts. I hope that through my work, viewers can appreciate both these precious traditional techniques and the personal vision of a contemporary artist expressing their own sensibilities.
