Message from Kunie Komori sensei Among the many forms of lacquer art, this work features woven bamboo patterns that create a warm and inviting expression. Made from bamboo and kanshitsu (dry lacquer), the piece is lightweight and highly resistant to warping. This technique is an exceptionally unique form of expression practiced in Japan by only myself and my apprentices.

My style is fun and warm in which the woven bamboo pattern is utilized in a variety of urushi works. The materials used are bamboo and kanshitsu (dry lacquer), which make the pieces lighter and less likely to deform. This is a unique method of expression that is practiced only by myself and my students in Japan. I hope you will cherish your tea time with lovely small sweets.
