Message from Makoto Kigasawa sensei The charm of glass is the reflection of light. The gorgeousness of the glass, as if it were sprinkled with sparkling jewels, and the moving braided pattern on the bottom of the glass are the attractiveness of this artwork.

The technique of glass kiriko (glass faceting) spread in Japan about 200 years ago and has been handed down to the present day as Edo kriko and Satsuma kiriko. A diamond grinder in the shape of a disk is attached to a machine rotating at high speed to engrave geometric patterns on glass (sometimes, the shape is cut out of a block). I create my artworks with an awareness of the fascination unique to glass materials, such as the mysterious world inside the glass, and reflections of the light on the sharpened and polished surface.
