Yamanaka Onsen, located in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a thriving hot spring and Yamanaka lacquerware production area. 450 years ago, woodwork artists from neighboring Fukui Prefecture moved to the mountains behind Yamanaka Onsen and began their activities. When the vessels flowed downstream to Yamanaka Onsen, the woodwork artists in the mountains were discovered and invited to produce souvenirs for the hot spring guests. The woodwork artists in Yamanaka invented various techniques in each period, and some of the techniques cannot be reproduced today. Every year, local woodwork artists present their new artworks with new techniques at the "New Works Exhibition" which is a place for them to test their skills. The Kawakita family also produces and presents original artworks as woodwork artisans, the origin of woodwork artists. We have original techniques such as vessels of wood turning in lathe, multi-faceted eccentric decoredated wood turning, and multi-faceted eccentric open work wood turning.
