Message from Taiju Hannya sensei I used a casting method called Fukiwake, in which dark copper and brass are melted separately and poured into molds sequentially, with the right balance. The shape expresses a wing soaring in the sky. With inlaid malachite, it has a toned form.

Takaoka copperware began in the early Edo period and became known worldwide after receiving high acclaim at the Paris World Exposition in the Meiji era. Utilizing its extensive knowledge of metals, I cast tea kettles made of iron and wind furnaces made of copper alloys. Based on the casting techniques I have cultivated, I also produce blown pieces with a technique called fukiwake in which multiple metals are poured alternately.
