Message from Tetsuya Hayashi sensei
During the design stage, vivid stripes appeared in my mind as a visual image, and I created this piece almost impulsively.
In contrast, the sides use calm-toned Jindai-sugi (ancient cedar), expressing the ajiro (woven) pattern through mokuga (wood inlay).
All of the striped patterns are made from the natural colors of the wood.
I believe you will be surprised to see just how colorful wood can be.

My areas of expertise include sashimono joinery, zōgan inlay, and mokuga wood mosaic techniques. Gunma is blessed with an abundance of beautiful and character-rich timber, and it is my hope to create works that bring out the full potential of these local materials.
