Message from Kakiemon Sakaida sensei The distinctive features of Kakiemon porcelain lie in its opaque clay body (nigode) and overglaze enamel decoration (iroe). Therefore, I carefully adjust the proportions of the clay body and pigments to ensure that the colors of the enamel stand out beautifully. The clay body and glaze are blended with jiseki (a type of feldspar) to achieve a milky white tone, and the pigments are finely tuned each time to harmonize with the body’s tone. I hope you can appreciate these subtle nuances. Regarding the painting, I vary the thickness of the lines and apply color gradients, so I hope you also enjoy these details.
