Message from Tamotsu Hannya sensei
"Fukiwake" is a technique where different materials are melted in separate crucibles simultaneously and then poured into a single mold either simultaneously or alternately to create an object. This flower vase was made by alternately casting black kuromidō (silver copper alloy) and crystallized nashiji brass three times. The characteristic feature of this technique is that the two types of molten metals intertwine and blend with each other until they cool and solidify, creating a mystical gradient pattern. Additionally, the pattern is influenced by various factors such as the pouring force, the temperature of the metals, and the temperature of the mold, ensuring that each piece is unique with no two patterns being identical.

The basic technical goal of chūkin (casting) is "reproduction and mass production," but I have challenged ourselves to create one of a kind pieces by mastering the chūkin technique and using fukiwake (multiple metal casting).
