Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Master Manji Inoue, the esteemed porcelain artist renowned for his mastery of traditional white porcelain techniques and widely recognized as a Living National Treasure. He passed away on July 14.

Born in Arita, Saga Prefecture—the birthplace of Arita ware with a history spanning over four centuries—Mr. Inoue dedicated his life to exploring the delicate nuances of color and form in white porcelain. His works, distinguished by their refined silhouettes, moved countless admirers both in Japan and abroad, earning him numerous accolades throughout his career.

In 1979, he was honored as a Contemporary Master Craftsman; in 1987, he received the Minister of Education Award at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition; and in 1995, he was designated a Living National Treasure for his mastery of white porcelain. In 1997, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon, among many other recognitions that cemented his role as a leading figure in the world of Japanese ceramics.

Mr. Inoue remained dedicated to his craft throughout his life, creating until the very end. His unwavering commitment and exceptional skills left a lasting influence on generations of artists.
