We make our artworks in Arita, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain clay using the traditional rokuro (potter's wheel) technique. Kōgei is a creative work which has a deep connection with nature. In my case, it is with the clay. My grandfather, Seiroku, was the holder of Saga Prefecture's Important Intangible Cultural Property "white porcelain ceramics" and was known as the "god of rokuro". I learned the techniques of rokuro and white porcelain from my grandfather, and I produce white porcelain of modern formative beauty with neat shapes and matte but shiny glazes.
Career
- 1975Born as the grandson of Seiroku Nakamura, the holder of Saga Prefecture's Important Intangible Cultural Property, ceramic white porcelain
- 1998After graduating from Kyushu University, apprenticed at Seiroku Kiln
- 2002Awarded the Art Association Prize at the Saga Art Association Exhibition
- 2002Awarded the Art Association Prize at the Saga Art Association Exhibition Selected for the Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition
- 2004Exhibited at the Arita Ceramic Art Exhibition in Germany
